FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SpeakClear really free?

Yes. It is free for everyone, open source under the MIT License, with no ads and no sign-up.

Does it say my accent is good or bad?

No. Every accent is valid. SpeakClear measures clarity and flow, which helps you be understood in any setting.

Is my voice recorded or stored?

No. SpeakClear never uploads or stores audio. Your browser’s own speech service handles transcription; see the privacy policy.

Which browsers work best?

Chrome, Edge and Safari on desktop or phone, with a quiet room and a decent microphone.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no sign-up. Open the Practice page and start reading.

Can I choose the accent, level and topic?

Yes. Choose American, British, Australian or Indian English, an Easy, Medium or Hard level, a topic and a focus sound, then press New paragraph.

What do the scores mean?

Accuracy shows how many words were understood, fluency covers pace and long pauses, and rhythm shows how even your beats are. Competence blends them: accuracy 40%, fluency 25%, rhythm 20%, completeness 15%.

Is the level an official test result?

No. The level is a practice estimate, not an official language assessment. See the terms.

How can I hear the correct pronunciation?

Tap any word in the paragraph or press Hear in the Words list to see its phonetics and hear it at normal or slow speed. Use Listen to hear the whole paragraph, and tick Slow for a slower pace.

Why was a word I said correctly marked as missed?

Scoring relies on your browser’s speech recognition, which can mishear in noisy rooms or with a weak microphone. Try a quiet space, speak at a steady pace and run it again.

Is SpeakClear open source?

Yes. It is released under the MIT License, and the source code is on GitHub.

How can I contact the creator?

SpeakClear is made by Md. Shimul Hossain. Find him on LinkedIn or GitHub, or visit the contact page.
